On Thursday, October 29, the LAZ association invited Mr. Ivan Esenka, an extraordinary connoisseur and expert in the field of animal study and its importance in garden ecology. Mr. Esenko wrote a series of popular and professional articles and also several books for children, youth and adults.
As Mr. Esenko, the garden is not only a place for growing vegetables and growing ornamental plants. The orderly environment and cultivated plants in it also attract many animals, among which there are many difficult species, as they cause damage to our crops. However, there are at least as many species that are classified as gardeners’ assistants. Among them, we could list plant pollinators and predators that thin the rodent species, caterpillars, aphids and many others that they like both vegetables and fruits.
Without songbirds, for example, and bats, who hunt the butterflies of the apple borer in the orchard in the shelter of the night, it would be difficult to grow healthy apples. It has been established that the environment, the more varied with the species, is more balanced. It practically does not need our interference, because the relationships between the species themselves take care of balance. By using pesticides, we upset the balance and repeatedly trigger problems that were not there before, or we deepen old ones.
At the end, the participants of the lecture were very grateful to the lecturer for the acquired new knowledge, which is useful in everyday life, especially if we live in the countryside.
