Social trip to Pivško 13.4.2013

In a very interesting way, with the help of the local tourist guide Marjeta. we got to know Pivška, the land of intermittent lakes and learned a lot about the brown bear and the lynx. We visited the farm tourism on the border, walked to one of the multitude of Pivška lakes, got to know the LIFE project on Mašun, which dealt with bear and lynx, and finally relived the life of the one time at Snežnik Castle.

Six rooms with a dining room and a kitchen, a jacuzzi, a sauna, a campsite, a distillery… – half a million dollar investment by a successful entrepreneur in farm tourism on the border. The guests are mainly foreigners, although for closed parties or for pampering, the offer is also very attractive for Slovenians. They prepared a delicious breakfast for us and presented us with their offer and capacities. Very nice, the master knows how to work with wood in a sophisticated way.

The weather was nice, the view reached as far as Triglav, and Krpan’s Holy Trinity accompanied us almost the entire way.

The group was pleasant, just big enough that we didn’t have to wait for each other. The guide Marjeta treated us like a slightly larger family.

We heard a lot of “bear” stories. The forest, which is the largest uninhabited area in Europe in terms of its size, and the wild animals represent a great potential for the Pivsko region to develop tourism – boutique, non-mass, green…
