On Thursday, June 11, 2015, the Laz Rural Development Association organized a presentation on volunteering at Šmartno pri Litija Elementary School.
We presented the ninth graders with the possibilities that volunteering offers to young people. In an understandable and interesting way, we first presented our docpie project and the role of volunteering in active citizenship. We talked with the students about who is a volunteer, how about volunteering in Slovenia and what opportunities for volunteering they will have as high school students. The students realized that you can complete the compulsory school practice as a volunteer in the association, they learned about the EVS program, the Youthpass certificate and the international recognition program for young people.
We combined the presentation with representatives from the Litija Youth Center, who enriched the event with concrete experiences from the EVS program. Among them were also two volunteers from Poland and Spain, who impressed the students with their openness and willingness to talk.
The students left the presentation full of new impressions and insights, which will definitely come in handy.
